The Process

Different photographers often have their own workflow. To help you gain a better understanding of my workflow and timeline, I have put together this brief overview.

First contact.

Regardless of how you found me, an introductory meeting is the first port of call. This allows me to gauge the scope of the work and assess if I'm the right fit.

Photo brief/Client questionnaire.

It is helpful for clients to write a brief beforehand, which is a detailed plan of the work that you believe is required.

If you don’t have a photography brief, I will forward you a questionnaire. Your answers to this will allow me to ascertain exactly what you need from the campaign.

Proposal.

The next step is to develop a proposal, which will outline the overall creative direction for the project. This will explore elements such as lighting, colour palette, composition, props, styling, models, and location (where relevant).

The treatment will also include my availability and provide a detailed quote that covers both the creative fee and any anticipated additional expenses.

Purchase order and Treatment.

Once a purchase order is confirmed, another meeting will take place to delve deeper into the project and consult further on creative direction.

I will then put together a full treatment.

Purpose:

  • To define how the creative vision will look and feel.

  • To align everyone on the visual, tonal, and emotional direction before production starts.

Typical contents:

  • Mood boards or visual references

  • Lighting, colour palette, and styling direction

  • Composition and camera approach

  • Casting or model direction

  • Location and props

  • References for post-production or grading style

This will then be followed by some back and forth to refine the vision, ensuring we are totally aligned.

The shoot.

The photoshoot will take place either in the studio or on location. Clients are encouraged to attend the shoot day and oversee the project to sign off on deliverables as we go. The studio or location will have a dedicated workspace, enabling you to continue with other work.

The Edit & Retouch.

Once the shoot is complete and the image selections for the campaign have been finalised, the chosen photographs will undergo retouching. This process removes any product imperfections, refines the overall appearance of each image, and assembles any necessary composite shots.

Following retouching, the images will be colour graded to enhance their overall look and feel, ensure consistency across the set, and align the visual style with the brand’s identity — resulting in a cohesive and polished campaign collection.

Final delivery.

The final deliverables will be released and an invoice issued. The deliverables will include:

  • Web optimised imagery.

  • Print optimised imagery (if necessary).

  • Image licence.

Aftercare 🫦

I strongly believe that exceptional customer service is an essential part of professional photography. That’s why I offer lifetime aftercare to all my clients as part of every package.

If you ever need your images in different sizes or formats, I’ll be happy to provide them. Should you misplace your files, rest assured — I keep secure backups and can resend them at any time. Even if you need minor adjustments made to your photographs in the future, I’ll always be here to help.
